DURHAM — Sarah Hampton Cox of Charlotte and Eugene George “Skip” Purcell IV of Charlotte exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. at Duke University Chapel, with the Rev. R. Carl Frazier officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. Stephen Hampton and Patti Cox of Sanford and the granddaughter of Jo Ann Curlee of Winston-Salem.
She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies. She is employed as an agent at Unum Group.
The groom is the son of Eugene George “Trip” Purcell III and Jackie Davis Purcell of Goldsboro and the grandson of Eugene G. Purcell Jr. of Lenoir, Eileen R. Jones of Wilmington and Delton B. Davis and the late Cleo S. Davis of Fremont.
He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science degree in business and a master’s degree in accounting from Kenan-Flagler Business School. He is employed as a certified public accountant with KPMG.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a silk ball gown with a sweetheart neckline and a draped bodice over a full silk skirt. The draped back skirt featured a jeweled broach with a chapel-length train.
Her headpiece was a chapel-length veil of silk illusion toile worn by her mother and sister.
The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of green hydrangeas, green cymbidium orchids, vendela roses, rose colored mini calla lilies and green hypericum backed with sala leaves wrapped with ivory satin ribbon.
Lauren Cox Weimert of Denver, Colo., was her sister’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Donna Elaine Purcell of Chapel Hill, sister of the groom, Christian Brooke Phillips of Cary, Martha Peyton Liles of Sanford, Marian Grace Johnson, of Chicago, Ill., and Gaya Celeste Myers and Anna Hartzog Tison of Atlanta.
Eugene George “Trip” Purcell III was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Paul Mason Cox of Washington D.C., brother of the bride; David Michael DeMasi of Chicago, Ill.; Paul Brantley West of New York City, cousin of the groom; and Peter William Knerr, Mark Charles Tamburello and Matthew William Flynn of New York City.
Ushers were James Alan West Jr. of Chapel Hill and Jason Taylor West of Boston, Mass., cousins of the groom; John Michael Bledsoe of Wilson; and Sourav Choudhury of New York City.
Kayleigh Elizabeth West of Chapel Hill, cousin of the groom, was flower girl. James Braxton West of Chapel Hill, cousin of the groom, was ringbearer.
Blanche Williams directed the wedding. Margaret Patricia Faust and Gina Diep Nguyen distributed programs.
John Albert Lookabaugh of Denton Texas, cousin of the bride, was the reader.
A program of wedding music was provided by Dr. David A. Arcus, organist.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at the Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill.
After their wedding trip to Aruba, the couple will reside in Charlotte.
Events held before the wedding included a spa day and shower at Lake Gaston hosted by Donna West, aunt of the groom; a low country seafood boil in Ocean Isle Beach hosted by the groom’s parents, Frank and Teresa Williamson, Currie and Pam Batchelor and Tommy and Karen Tucker; a party at Buffalo Lake hosted by Patti Keith, Vicki Mann and Vicki Quick; a shower hosted by Ellen Mangum, Betty Thompson, Linda Moore, Mary Tatum and Barbara Perry; and a bridesmaids’ luncheon at the Carolina Inn hosted by Jo Ann Curlee, Irene Jordan, Toni Davenport and Beth Denning.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Spanky’s Restaurant in Chapel Hill.
