Wooten - Thomas
TOPSAIL BEACH — Katherine Marks Thomas and Robert Davis Wooten of Fremont exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. at Emma Anderson Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Steven Wilson Johnson officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Jimmie Lee Thomas and the late Markie Wicker Thomas of Sanford and the granddaughter of the late Harold and Mae Spivey Knuth of Sanford and the late Hobart Braxton and Ruby Marks Wicker of Sanford.
She graduated from Lee County High School and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill with a master’s degree in dental hygiene. She is employed as a dental hygienist at Dr. David R. Kuhn and Associates.
The groom is the son of Robert Floyd Wooten of Goldsboro and Terry Davis Barnes of Fremont, the stepson of Dr. Devon Lee Barnes and the grandson of Edna Jones Wooten and the late Robert Yelverton Wooten of Goldsboro and Bertha Edmundson Davis and the late Winston Davis of Fremont.
He graduated from Charles B Aycock High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise and sports science. He played baseball during college, with three trips to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. He is employed as a pitcher with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father.
She wore an ivory Alencon lace halter gown with a trumpet skirt and a sweep train.
Her headpiece was a one-layered fingertip veil with a soutache edge.
The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of white hydrangeas and white roses.
Leigh Thomas Garten, sister of the bride, and Emily Johnson Fisher were matrons of honor.
Bridesmaids were Tiffany Gunter Hinnant, Jennifer Lynn Junkin and Jenna Grey Wooten, sister of the groom.
Robert Floyd Wooten was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Elliott Edwards Barnes, stepbrother of the groom, Ryan Patrick Batts, Garrett Winston Davis, cousin of the groom, and Braxton Moulton Massey IV.
Ushers were Stephen Andrew Barnes, stepbrother of the groom, and Grant Eldridge Sasser.
Honorary groomsmen were Gary Andrew Carignan Jr., Michael Samuel Cavasinni, John Matthew Danford, Garrett David Gore, Joshua Ryan Horton, Tyler Lee Trice, Timothy Joseph Federowicz and Charles Zorah Flack IV
Sophia Jane Garten, niece of the bride, was flower girl.
Terri Talbott Gunter and Sarah Stevens Slate directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Ceilidh Joy Garten, niece of the bride. Stacey Wicker Walters and Jennifer Lynn Wicker distributed programs.
Honorary bridesmaids were Jennifer Foushee Conde, Jill Ann Davis, cousin of the groom, and Elizabeth Ann Pilson.
A program of wedding music was provided by Myra Cole, pianist; Van Clifton Johnson and Teresa Yow Pilson, vocalists; and Jean Jennings Turlington, violinist.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s father hosted a reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Murray Garten in Topsail Beach.
After a wedding trip to Nassau, Bahamas, the couple reside in Sanford.
Events held before the wedding included a wedding day brunch hosted by Terri Gunter, Becky Johnson, Sandra Wittenborn and Teresa Pilson; a bachelor party in Wilmington hosted by friends; a bridesmaids’ luncheon at the Beach Shop and Grill in Topsail Beach hosted by Becky Johnson, Terri Gunter, Teresa Pilson, Donna Wicker, Sandra Wicker, Nancy Wicker, Linda Dalrymple and Gerri Hearn; a shower at Zion Christian Church hosted by Jo Ann Baker, Sharron Womble, Deborah Wall and Alyce Gaines; a shower at Kuhn Dental Associates hosted by co-workers; and a pink shower at the home of Freda Davis hosted by Ms. Davis, Lynda Stewart, Candy Whitley, Kathy Davis and Donna Pate.
Dr. and Mrs. Devon Lee Barnes hosted a rehearsal dinner at Indigo Marsh restaurant in Surf City and dessert at their home.
