Dawson - Allen
Renita Danielle Allen and Rico Leandray Dawson exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. at Central Heights Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bennie Smith Jr., uncle of the bride, officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Doris Marie Allen of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of the late Willard and Annie Allen of Scottsdale, Ga., and the late Bennie Smith Sr. and Eliza Hobbs Smith of Goldsboro.
She is a1989 graduate of Goldsboro High School and a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing management and Master of Adult Education degree. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She is employed as coordinator of basic skills at James Sprunt Community College.
The groom is the son of Bernard Dawson and Annie Doris Dawson of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late Charles Holt, Sue Dawson and the late Johnnie Lee and Agnes Reid of Goldsboro.
He is a 1986 graduate of Goldsboro High School and a graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in music industry studies with a concentration in business administration. He is employed as program director at ADLA Inc.
The bride was escorted by her uncle, Joseph M. Smith, and given in marriage by her mother.
She wore a white satin A-line gown. The bodice featured a sweetheart neckline with cap sleeves. The front was embellished with a beaded bodice with a flat front with crystal appliqués. The beaded detail from the hemline of the dress carried to the chapel train. The back of the gown had gather pick ups.
Her headpiece was a tiara with a floral pattern with crystals.
The bride carried a hand bouquet of mixed pink roses with babies breath and Italian ruscus tied with pink and black ribbons.
Freda J. Allen was her sister’s maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Verna P. Best, godsister of the bride; Avis P. Canty and Michelle Y. Hines, sorority sisters of the bride; and Bianca R. Cogdell, friend of the bride.
Charles Dawson, brother of the bride, was best man.
Groomsmen were Richard Ashe, friend of the groom; Duwane A. Brown, friend of the bride; and Michael Fowler, friend of the couple.
Aaron D. Best, cousin of the bride, was the usher.
Tara Reid-Jones, sorority sister of the bride, directed the wedding, assisted by Damesha A. Smith, cousin of the bride.
Dr. Freddie I. Barnes was Scripture reader.
Dr. Kamala Uzzell, sorority sister of the bride, was head hostess, assisted by Felita Carr, Rovonda Freeman, Deaunna George, Natasha Harvey, Regina Harvey, Preshonna Sanders and DeAndria Williams.
A program of wedding music was provided by the Rev. Jerry Dortch, pianist, and Mabel McNair and Michelle Hobbs, vocalists.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Solomon Weil House. Christine Smith, aunt of the bride, cut the wedding cake.
After a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., the couple reside in Goldsboro.
Events held before the wedding included a girls’ night out Aug. 22 in Raleigh hosted by Verna Best and Bianca Cogdell; a shower July 25 at the Waters family reunion in Myrtle Beach hosted by Nicole Barrett and Charmaine Bell-Grantham, cousins of the bride; a surprise shower July 11 in Kenansville hosted by co-workers of the bride; a surprise bridal shower June 28 at New Spirit Church Ministries hosted by Freda J. Allen, sister of the bride; a bridal shower May 31 at Comfort Inn and Suites hosted by Tara Reid Jones; and a wedding luncheon at the Bistro in Rose Hill hosted by co-workers of the bride.
A rehearsal dinner was held at Central Heights Free Will Baptist Church.
