Rogers - Norman
RALEIGH — Chaundra Onita Norman and David Rogers Jr. exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony July 7 at 3 p.m. at Long View Center, with the Rev. La’Barron McAdoo and the Rev. Louis S. Leigh Jr. officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Fredric and Carol Norman of Wilmington, Del., and the granddaughter of the late Richard and Thelma O. Craig of Yantley, Ala., and Pearl Norman and the late Joseph Black Norman of Demopolis, Ala.
She is a 1996 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Delaware and a 2000 graduate of North Carolina A&T University. She is employed as an English teacher and head cheerleading coach at Northeast Guilford High School in McLeansville.
The groom is the son of David Sr. and Shirley Gatling Rogers of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late Luther Samuel and Martha Stallings Rogers of Bunn and James Elbert and Dorothy Jordan Gatling of Como.
He is a 1993 graduate of Goldsboro High School and a 1998 graduate of North Carolina A&T State University. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He is employed as an English teacher and head track and field coach at W.H. Page High School in Greensboro.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a formal A-line strapless ivory satin and silk gown with a sweetheart neckline. It had a fitted bodice and a chapel-length train adorned with silver beads and crystals.
Her headpiece was an ivory shoulder-length veil with silver beads and a crystal trim.
The bride carried a clutch bouquet of mango calla lilies, salmon orange and ivory roses accented with green hydrangeas.
Danielle Norman of Germantown, Md., was her sister’s maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Sherry Rogers Moore of Albany, Ga., sister of the groom; Erin Taylor of Matthews and Pamela Carter of Georgetown, Ken., cousins of the bride; and Kiana Brown of Newark, Del., Nikiah Dawson of Columbia, Md., Crystal Tate of Greensboro and Saretta Tatum of Columbus, Ohio, friends of the bride.
Cedrik Faison of Winston-Salem was his friend’s best man.
Groomsmen were Joseph Purcell of Greensboro, cousin of the groom; Michael Wimberly of Chapel Hill, cousin of the bride; and Charles Huff and Jamaal Hamilton of Greensboro, Major Cowan and John Williams of Raleigh, Ryan Russell of Durham, VonRay “Shon” Davis of Clemmons and Andre Worrells of Goldsboro, friends of the groom.
Ushers were Richard Earl Moore Jr. of Albany, Ga., brother-in-law of the groom ; Henry Rogers Jr. of Bunn, cousin of the groom; Paul C. Daniels of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Toddrick Scott of Dunwoody, Ga., cousins of the bride; and Jerome Fletcher of High Point and Jeffery Watts of Kernersville, friends of the groom.
Kye Harrell, Jansyn Gordon and Taylor Pace, cousins of the bride, were flower girls. Tyler Thomas of Raleigh, cousin of the groom, was ringbearer.
Kelsey Gordon, Arielle Tindel and Dominique Parks, cousins of the bride, were bell ringers.
Tracy Adams directed the wedding. Andrew Benson and Kristina Craig distributed programs.
The Rev. W. Calvin Craig, uncle of the bride, and the Rev. Dexter Wright, cousin of the groom, were readers.
Jamelle Froster of Richmond, Va., friend of the bride, and Tracy Gatling of Greenville and Phyllis Worthington of Raleigh, cousins of the groom, were greeters.
A program of wedding music was provided by Tamela Brinson, Mitch Johnson, Chanelle Broughton and Porsha McLeod, vocalists, and Andre Brinson, Christopher Brinson, Anthony Brown and Bluford Thompson.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at Embassy Suites of Cary. Greg Ramsey was emcee.
After a wedding trip to the southern Caribbean, the couple reside in Greensboro.
Events held before the wedding included a guys’ getaway in Miami, Fla., June 17; a bridal shower May 26 in Wilmington, Del., hosted by the bride’s sister and mother; and a bridal shower April 7 in Raleigh hosted by the groom’s sister and mother.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner July 6 at Embassy Suites of Cary.
