Hixson-Pate
Mary-Kathryn Pate of Raleigh and Todd Warren Hixson exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony July 21 at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Glenn Franklin Phillips officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jason Thomas Pate Jr. of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Doris Jones Pate and the late Jason Thomas Pate Sr. of Goldsboro and Alma Craddock and the late Theron Joseph Edwards of Princeton.
She is a 2004 cum laude graduate of Meredith College with a Bachelor of Science degree in family and consumer sciences and secondary education and attends graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for a master’s degree in early childhood intervention and family support. She is employed as an early childhood education teacher at Needham B. Broughton High School of Raleigh.
The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Mark Eugene Hixson of Raleigh and the grandson of the late Clark Eugene Hixson Jr. and Christine Thompson Hixson of Henderson and Yancey William and Leona Knowles Warren of Reidsville.
He attended the University of Mississippi. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications. He is employed as a training adviser at Global Knowledge of Cary.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore an ivory strapless mermaid-style gown of duchess satin adorned with an overlay of French lace appliqués trimmed with pearls and crystals. The skirt had a semi-cathedral train.
Kelly Sue Dixon was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Mary Robinson Green, Sarah Campbell Mitchell and Jennifer Beatty Pinkard of Raleigh, Melanie Nicole Gurley of Goldsboro, Malone Elizabeth Wade of Charlotte and Anna Deal Waddle of Lincolnton.
Mark Eugene Hixson was best man.
Groomsmen were John Wilson Freeze, Samuel Robbins Smith and Brian Summerfield Vick of Raleigh; William Jeremey Hedrick of Missoula, Mont.; Kristopher Kerr Hixson of Raleigh, brother of the groom; and Jason Thomas Pate, III of Goldsboro, brother of the bride.
Elsie Raper Hooks directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Lindsey Michelle Graham of Chapel Hill. Heather Coleman Smith and Mandy Brown Vick of Raleigh distributed programs.
William Norwood Mitchell of Raleigh was the crucifer. Erica Whittig Spain of Raleigh was the Scripture reader.
A program of wedding music was provided by David E. Parsons, vocalist, and William B. Hayes, organist.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at Goldsboro Country Club. Sandra and Roland Gurley greeted guests. Linda and Glenn Chitty and Martha and Jimmy Bryan said good-byes. Nan Alexander was the director.
After a wedding trip to Mayan Riviera, the couple reside in Raleigh.
Events held before the wedding included a wedding day barbecue July 21 at Hampton Inn hosted by Diane Bell and Bennett Jones; a wedding day luncheon July 21 at the home of Jason Pate hosted by Kelly Dixon, Sandra Gurley and Pate; a bachelorette weekend June 29 through July 1 in Oak Island hosted by the bridesmaids; a bridesmaids’ luncheon June 23 at Goldsboro Country Club hosted by Susan Daughtry, Barbara Eason, Alma Edwards and Peggy Edwards; a barbecue dinner and dance June 22 at Lane Tree Country Club hosted by friends of the bride; a summer supper shower June 9 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Grover Smith of Raleigh hosted by friends of the groom; a bachelor weekend May 18 through 20 in Charleston, S.C., hosted by friends of the groom; a bridal shower and luncheon April 28 at the home of Donna Fork of Raleigh hosted by Ms. Fork, Jerianne Lackey and Erica Spain; a bridal shower and tea April 15 at First Baptist Church’s Mary Crawford Norwood parlor hosted by the church; and an engagement dinner party Feb. 17 at the home of Anne and John Mitchell of Raleigh hosted by the Mitchells.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at Goldsboro Country Club.
