Birkin - Sullivan
Barbara Ann Sullivan and Robert Scott Birkin exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony April 14 at 2 p.m. at Long Ridge Free Will Baptist Church.
The bride is the daughter of Herman and Linda Sullivan of Mount Olive and the granddaughter of the late Roland and Ethel Sullivan, Sadie Price of Mount Olive and the late Lincoln Price.
She is a graduate of North Duplin High School and Wayne Community College with an associate degree in medical office administration. She is employed as a front desk team leader with Dr. Lambert’s office at Goshen Medical.
The groom is the son of Don and Angie Markovetz of Mount Olive and Scott Birkin of Fayetteville and the grandson of the late William Higgins Jr., Jim and Elise Creech of Mount Olive and Verge and JoAnn Birkin of Raleigh.
He graduated from Southern Wayne High School. He is employed as an assistant manager with Piggly Wiggly of Clinton.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a formal gown of white satin with a strapless bustline. The bodice was defined by a satin overlapping band beaded with pearls, sequins and bugle beads. The back had pleats that led to the A-line skirt and semi-cathedral train.
Her headpiece was a tiara of rhinestones and Austrian crystal with a single-tiered veil of silk illusion with stardust crystal and satin-corded edging.
The bride carried a bouquet of white and pink roses wrapped in white satin.
LeAnn Julien was her friend’s maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Jennifer Sullivan and Lynn Faircloth, cousins of the bride; Della King, sister of the bride; and Kris Birkin, sister of the groom.
Steven Higgins was his cousin’s best man.
Groomsmen were Nicki Brock, cousin of the bride; Don Markovetz, stepfather of the groom and Chris Odom, friend of the couple.
Ushers were Wade Faircloth and Matthew Strickland, cousins of the bride.
Gracie Justice, niece of the bride, and Alexys Higgins, cousin of the groom, were flower girls. Benjamin Justice, nephew of the bride, was ringbearer.
Polly Justice, sister of the bride, and Meg Jackson directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Kim Brock, cousin of the bride. Courtney Brock, cousin of the bride, distributed programs.
Special helpers were Gail Rouse, Rena Mason, Faye Sullivan and Nellie Dail.
A program of wedding music was provided by Polly Harris, pianist, and Robin Smith, vocalist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall. Patty Brock, aunt of the bride, cut the wedding cake. Dean Strickland, aunt of the bride, poured punch. John and Sandra Sullivan greeted guests.
After a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., the couple reside in Mount Olive.
Events held before the wedding included an afternoon of golfing bachelor party March 31 at Sleepy Creek; a miscellaneous shower March 25 hosted by co-workers of the bride; a lingerie shower March 24 hosted by Jennifer Sullivan and Lynn Faircloth, cousins of the bride; a Pampered Chef shower March 18 at the home of Rena Mason hosted by Ms. Mason; a miscellaneous shower March 10 at the home of the groom’s parents hosted by the groom’s mother and Christine Higgins, cousin of the groom; and a miscellaneous shower Feb. 24 at Long Ridge Church hosted by family and friends.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner in the church fellowship hall.
