McDermott - Murphy
Jessica Lynn Murphy of Greenville became the bride of Gregory Robert McDermott March 11 at 5 p.m.
The Rev. Gary Bailey officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
The bride is the daughter of Randy and Alice Futrelle Murphy of Pikeville. She is the granddaughter of Hattie Lou Futrelle and the late Rev. Foy C. Futrelle of Goldsboro and Martha Murphy and the late Alvin Murphy of Corrigan, Texas.
Parents of the groom are Cynthia Lampman McDermott and Robert McDermott of Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. He is the grandson of the late Mary Lou Lampman and Wayne Lampman of Derby, N.Y., and the late Mary Lou McDermott and Mickey and Sandy McDermott of Fort Erie.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory satin strapless formal gown with a Basque waist and a full French tulle skirt with a chapel-length train. Beading and silver hand-embroidery adorned the bodice and tulle overlay.
For her headpiece, she chose a tiara of crystals and pearls with a double-tiered veil with an embroidered edge with pearls and crystals. She carried a cascading bouquet of gerbera daisies, vogue roses, delphinium, lisanthus and plumosus fern attached to the Bible her mother carried in her wedding.
Heather M. Odom of Pikeville, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Brandon Smith of Buies Creek, friend of the bride, was man of honor. Bridesmaids were Dawn M. Gardner of Goldsboro, cousin of the bride, and Joy D. Hill of Lucama, college roommate of the bride.
Brett McDermott of Fort Erie was his brother’s best man. Ushers were Scott Crusan of Blasdell, N.Y., uncle of the groom, and Christopher Mozingo of Goldsboro and Chase King of Pikeville, cousins of the bride. Groomsmen were Christopher Holmes of Fort Erie, friend of the groom; Jason Lodge of Montrose, Pa., college roommate of the groom; and Alvin Odom of Pikeville, brother-in-law of the bride.
Kennedy Odom of Pikeville, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Chandler King of Pikeville, cousin of the bride, was ring bearer.
Bonnie F. Mozingo of Goldsboro, aunt of the bride, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were Joan F. King of Pikeville, aunt of the bride, and Gloria Margerum of Blasdell, aunt of the groom. Lauren and Leah Crusan of Blasdell, cousins of the groom, distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Christy C. Collins of Goldsboro, pianist, and Lisa H. Jones of Mount Olive and Stewart Gardner of Goldsboro, vocalists.
After a wedding trip to Snowshoe, W. Va., the couple will reside in Greenville.
The bride is a 2000 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and a 2004 graduate of Mount Olive College with a bachelor of science degree. She was the 2004 state president of Phi Beta Lambda. She is employed as an executive team leader of human resources with Target.
The groom graduated from Fort Erie Secondary School of Canada in 1999 and Mount Olive College in 2004 with a bachelor of science degree. He was a member of Mount Olive College golf team. He is employed as an executive team leader of soft lines with Target.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a dinner and dance reception at Goldsboro Country Club. Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Smith of Goldsboro greeted guests. Sonya McCoy of Mount Olive and Gail Crusan of Blasdell served the wedding cake.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner March 10 at Ryan’s Steakhouse.
On Feb. 25, Heather Odom held a lingerie shower and bachelorette party in Greenville.
The bride’s mother held a bridesmaids’ luncheon Feb. 11 at the Royal Tea Room of Selma.
On Jan. 15, family and friends of the couple held a bridal shower at Stoney Creek Church.
Joan King and Dawn Gardner held a Christmas shower Dec. 17 at the King home.
Feb. 14, 2005, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Odom held an engagement party at their home.
