RALEIGH — Charissa June Kirkland of Raleigh became the bride of Richard Kanon Best of Raleigh on Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.
The Rev. Scott Carpenter officiated at the double-ring ceremony at The Long View Center.
Parents of the bride are Richard Lee and June Kirkland of Swansea, S.C. Parents of the groom are Richard Dale and Olivia Best of Goldsboro. Best is the grandson of Ralph and Janice Gurley and J.D. and Faye Best and the late Ruth Best, all of Goldsboro.
Jean Watkins, friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sarah Kirkland, sister-in-law of the bride; Courtney Best Pickens, sister of the groom; Patricia Cunningham, Tonya Hick and Gayle Southerland, all college roommates of the bride; and Jody-Linn Pinkerton, friend.
Lydia Elliason, friend of the couple, was the flower girl.
Richard Dale Best was his son’s best man. Frankie Bunn, friend of the groom, was honorary best man. Groomsmen were Hunter Best, brother of the groom; Eric Kirkland, brother of the bride; and Shawn Chase, George Georgiou, Mike Enger, friends of the groom.
Lee Kirkland, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.
Music was provided by Risa Poniros, vocal soloist; Leslie Riley, cellist and Don Eagle, trumpet. Julie Best, sister-in-law of the groom, read scripture and Jennifer Kilpatrick, friend of the groom, rang the bell, tolling the hour.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Historical Hillsborough House. A rehearsal dinner hosted by the groom’s parents was held on Friday evening.
Several parties and showers were held in Raleigh, Goldsboro and Charleston, S.C., to honor the couple.
The bride is a graduate of Lander University with a degree in nursing. She is employed as a clinical research coordinator at Duke University Medical Center.
The groom attended Wayne Community College and is employed at European Performance of Raleigh.
After a honeymoon trip to Fiji, the couple will reside in Raleigh.
