Sharita Shantel Quinn and Leander Tovares Oates were wed July 3 at 4 p.m.
The Rev. William J. Barber III officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Greenleaf Christian Church.
Stanley and Marilyn Quinn of Greenville, Miss., are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of Wilson and Willie Mae Rollins of Memphis, Tenn., Evelyn Harris of Greenville, the late John Harris and the late Joseph Z. Richardson of Saginaw, Mich., and the great-granddaughter of the late Robert and Mary Kimble of Greenville.
Parents of the groom are Nina Teresa Taylor and Leander Oates. He is the stepson of Donald Taylor and the grandson of the late David and Nina “Pearl” and James and Dorothy Wooten of Goldsboro.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a strapless white satin princess line gown with an asymmetrical drape and beaded epaulet. Beading decorated the bodice and accented the chapel-length train.
For her headpiece, she chose a rhinestone and pearl tiara with an elbow-length two-tiered tulle veil. She carried a ball of fresh white roses accented with baby’s breath and ivory.
Juliet Pender-Jones of Goldsboro was matron of honor. Joi Peacock of Goldsboro was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Donyell Hearts of Charlotte, Tamika Kornegay of Greensboro, Qiana Lesesne of Raleigh, Niakita Oates of Goldsboro, sister of the groom, Kakisha Hamrick-Smith of Glover and Nadia McDowell-Townsend of Fayetteville.
James Simmons of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., was best man. Grooomsmen were John Twitty Roderick Wooten of Goldsboro, Andr’e Miller of Richmond County, Marcus Quinn of Goldsboro, brother of the bride, Randy Shaw of Asheville and Lakeith Stevenson of Raleigh. Ushers were Antonio and Rico Darden of Atlanta, Ga., cousins of the groom, and Kris Jones, friend of the groom.
Taniyah Oates, daughter of the couple, and Kylie Hamrick were flower girls. Ramon Oates was ring bearer.
Jazmin Turner was bell ringer.
Mary Brathwaite of Goldsboro directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register were Regina Dawkins and Shaquitta Woodard.
A program of wedding music was provided by Chye Kornegay, Kandi Swinson, LaShonda Lewis and Christopher Chestnutt, vocalists, and Cleveland Cody.
After a wedding trip to Cancun, Mexico, the couple is residing in Goldsboro.
The bride is a 1997 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and a 2004 graduate of Mount Olive College with a bachelor’s degree in human resource management. She is employed as a daycare caseworker with the Wayne County Department of Social Services.
The groom graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in 1997 and Winston-Salem State University in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He is employed with Wayne County Public Schools as a health teacher and assistant football coach at Goldsboro High School.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Lane Tree Golf Club. O’Linda Hamilton and Mary Brathwaite cut and served the wedding cake.
On July 2, the groom’s parents held a luau rehearsal dinner at their home.
The daycare unit at the Department of Social Serviced held a miscellaneous shower June 24 at Ryan’s Steakhouse.
On June 19, the bride’s mother and mother-in-law held a linen and lingerie shower.
The bridesmaids held a day at the spa and dinner June 12 in Raleigh.
On May 16, co-workers of the bride at Kay Jewelers held a miscellaneous shower at Texas Steakhouse.
