Sholar - Kornegay
ALBERTSON — Beverly Hope Kornegay and Nicholas Paul Sholar were united in holy matrimony June 19 at 6 p.m.
The Rev. Lynwood Boyette officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Woodland United Methodist Church.
Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Gerald Kornegay of Mount Olive. She is the granddaughter of Wilma Byrd Malpass of Faison, the late K.D. Malpass and the late Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kornegay and the late Taft Herring of Mount Olive and the great-granddaughter of Mary Lou Scott Herring of Mount Olive.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Douglas Sholar of Wallace. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis Junior Hatcher and Trudy Sholar Hatcher of Wallace.
Given in marriage by her family and escorted by her father, the bride wore a strapless white floor-length gown with a scalloped bodice adorned with white pearls and a floral embellishment. It flowed into a chapel-length train embellished with antique lace to match the bodice.
For her headpiece, she chose a crystal and pearl tiara with a shoulder-length veil adorned with crystals. She carried a bouquet of stargazer lilies, white daisies and purple and yellow wildflowers.
Erica Elizabeth Smith of Mount Airy, college friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaid were Jessica Lynn Wade of Beulaville, friend of the couple; Sadie Danielle Sholar and Angela Hill Strickland of Wallace, sisters of the groom; and Tammy Gideon Sholar of Wallace, sister-in-law of the groom.
Harry Sholar was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Jason Carl Sholar, brother of the groom; Timothy Gerald Kornegay and Kyle Aaron Kornegay, brothers of the bride; and William Brandon Rich, friend of the couple.
Alexis Paige Dixon and Aleshia Dawn Dixon of Wallace, nieces of the groom, were junior bridesmaid.
Jackie Roberts Casey of Wilmington, college friend of the bride, was the honorary bridesmaid.
Katlyn Jean Scalf of Mount Olive, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. Zachary Logan Sholar and Alexander Blake Sholar of Wallace, nephews of the groom, were ring bearers.
Sandra Lee of Mount Olive directed the ceremony, assisted by Angie Lee Kennedy of Mount Olive. Presiding at the register and distributing programs were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Howard of Mount Olive, uncle and aunt of the bride.
A program of wedding music was provided by Marilynn Kornegay Hroza of Albertson, pianist, and Sarah Katherine Hroza of Charlotte and Rebekah Thomas Hroza of Mount Olive, vocalists.
After a wedding trip to New Orleans, the couple is residing in Mount Olive.
The bride is a 1999 graduate of East Duplin High School and a 2002 cum laude graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a bachelor of arts degree in history and a secondary education certification. She attends the University of North Carolina at Wilmington for a master’s degree in education. She is employed as a social studies teacher with Duplin County Schools.
The groom graduated from East Duplin High School in 199. He attended James Sprunt Community College and Wayne Community College. He is employed as a cutter operator with Kornegay Logging.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a dinner reception in the church fellowship hall. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Blizzard of Mount Olive, family friends of the bride, greeted guests. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Costin of Wallace, family of the groom, said good-byes. Debbie Malpass and Faye Jones of Mount Olive, aunts of the bride, served the wedding cake.
On June 18, the groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at Woodland United Methodist Church fellowship hall.
The groom held a weekend trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., June 12.
On June 5, Tammy Sholar and Jessica Wade held a lingerie shower at the Sholar home.
The bride held a get-together May 29 at her parent’s home in Surf City.
On May 20, co-workers of the bride held a shower in Beulaville.
The bride’s family an friends held a miscellaneous shower May 16 at Woodland United Methodist Church.
On May 8, Faye Sholar and family held a miscellaneous shower at Mill Swamp Community Center of Chinquapin.
Debbie Malpass of Mount Olive, Faye Jones and Jan Tucker held a garden shower April 17 at the Malpass home.
On Nov. 30, Tammy Sholar and Brenda Gideon held a Christmas shower at Poston Baptist Church of Wallace.
The couple’s parents held an engagement party Sept. 27 at the home of the bride’s parents.
