MOREHEAD CITY — Polly Lorraine Purnell of Atlantic Beach became the wife of Austin Ronald Norris of Atlantic Beach June 19 at 2 p.m.

Dr. Homer Morris officiated at the double-ring ceremony at First United Methodist Church.

The bride is the daughter of Frank Henry “Dukes” and Yvonne Williams Purnell of Goldsboro. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Ray Purnell and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Williams of Goldsboro.

Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Paul Norris of Newport. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul Norris of Franklinville, the late Eileen Adams and A.P. Adams of Morehead City.

Given in marriage by her mother and escorted by Brooks Marriner, the bride wore a formal gown of white Italian satin, English tulle and Alencon lace. It has a halter neckline embellished with pearls and sequins. Pearls, sequins and lace over English tulle accented the princess bodice. Pearl and sequin lace motifs enhanced the A-line skirt. The back bodice was interwoven with beaded lace. A pearl and sequin lace trellis cascaded to define the chapel train with a scalloped lace border.

For her headpiece, she chose a veil of silk illusion attached to a pearl crown. She carried a bouquet of blue hydrangeas with Virginia cream roses hand-tied with satin ribbon.

Mary Johnston of Hockessin, Del., was matron of honor. Debbie Coleman of Morehead City was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Michelle Hill of Smyrna, Robin Wynne of Chocowinity and Renee Fullen of Newport, friends of the bride.

Ronald Paul Norris was best man. Groomsmen were David Lewis of Smyrna, Michael Lewis of Morehead City and Samuel Wynne of Chocowinity, friends of the groom, and Paul Norris of Newport, brother of the groom.

Jessi Fasulo was flower girl. Tanner Jones was ring bearer.

Ann Mebane directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register was Glenda Lewis. Malena Lewis distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Rachael Mundine, organist.

After a wedding cruise to the Caribbean, the couple will reside in Atlantic Beach.

The bride is a 1989 graduate of Wayne Country Day School and a 1993 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is co-owner and a real estate broker with ERA Tetterton Management Group of Atlantic Beach.

The groom graduated from West Carteret High School in 1991. He served in the Army. He is employed as eastern regional manager with Carteret Heating and Cooling.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Bogue Banks Country Club of Pine Knoll Shores. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Alexander and Mr. and Mrs. Hilton L. Tetterton Jr. greeted guests. Paige Nunn cut the wedding cake. Janice Turner poured punch.

On June 18, JoAnn Marriner, Candie Marriner, Jenny Morgan and Paige Nunn held a bridesmaids’ luncheon at Ramada Inn of Pine Knoll Shores.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brown, Mr. and Mrs. David Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Lewis, friends of the couple, held a bachelor and bachelorette weekend June 12 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

On June 6, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Billingsly and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Taylor held a casual cocktail buffet at the Taylor home in Atlantic Beach.

Julie Bridgers, Jackie Gurley, Katrina Gurley, Ann Savage, Marijo Tyndall, Becky Weisiger and Reba Williams held a floating shower May 23 at Daniels United Methodist Church.

On May 8, Alma Alexander, Robin Chadwick, Debbie Coleman, Renee Fullen, Michelle Hill, Diana Hopkins, Ann Mebane, Pam Tunby, Janice Turner and Robin Wynne held a miscellaneous floating shower at The Bountiful Bagel of Morehead City.

The groom’s parents, the bride’s mother and the couple held a rehearsal dinner luau at the home of the bride’s mother. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.
