Pressure defense and shooting-drill prowess.
That combination proved sound enough for the Wayne Christian varsity girls' basketball team on Thursday evening, as evidenced by its 64-13 victory over non-conference foe Greenville Christian Academy.
The 51-point landslide moved the Eagles to 6-5 overall.
Adayah Ginn paced Wayne Christian in the opening quarter, scoring 10 quick points and essentially authoring the game's outcome. The sophomore would finish the half with 19 points -- a game high -- before sitting out the second stanza.
Ginn was aided by the effort of Abi Harrelson, who scored 15 points. Junior guard Kasey Norris chipped in 12 points, while freshman Emma Harbuck finished with 10 points and four rebounds.
Jameia Waters scored four points and snared five boards, and forward Payton Jackson -- also a freshman -- grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
GCA (0-9) struggled throughout, but was led by sophomore guard Hannah Sanders, who finished with 10 points. Marianna Pinto and Lauren Wagner rounded out the scorebook for the visitors.
Wayne Christian will host Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference and county rival Wayne Country Day School on Saturday. Varsity action begins at 3:30 p.m.
