Girls' basketball
Eastern Wayne 46, North Lenoir 45
* Eastern Wayne got some late-game heroics and played solid defense in the final minute en route to a 46-45 win over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival North Lenoir on Tuesday night.
With 49 seconds to play, the Warriors found themselves down by one point. After a play failed to produce a score, the Warriors got the ball under their basket with 41 seconds to play. Head coach Tyrone Wagner drew up an inbounds play for Janielle Daniel.
The pass came into Daniel just inside the free throw line and the diminutive guard sank a shot to give the Warriors the lead for good. The Hawks got one last chance on a running shot by TaBreia Foster that hit off the rim as time expired.
Jasmine Benjamin led the Warriors (5-13 overall, 3-6 ECC) with 16 points. Tamiya Dortch added 11 points in the win.
Kristen Davenport paced the Hawks with 14 points. Foster finished with 11 markers and Deshana Cox tallied 10 points.
North Lenoir (7-14, 3-7) travels to Southern Wayne on Feb. 8. Eastern Wayne is the guest of Charles B. Aycock on Friday night.
Princeton 43, Spring Creek 24
* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Princeton got off to a hot start en route to a 43-24 win over Carolina 1-A Conference rival Spring Creek on Wednesday night.
Savanna Massengill paced the Dawgs with 14 points. Nicole Melvin added 10 markers in the win.
Jana Price led the Spring Creek attack with 11 points.
Spring Creek travels to Rosewood on Friday night, while Princeton visits Goldsboro.
Faith Christian 43,
Berean Baptist 35
* FAYETTEVILLE -- Faith Christian got some hot outside shooting from Christina Powell en route to a 43-35 win over Berean Baptist.
Powell sank three 3-pointers and paced the Conquerors offense with 14 points. Brianna Champion added 11 points and 14 rebounds in the win.
Faith Christian (8-9 overall) will host Calvary Christian tonight.
Boys' basketball
Princeton 66, Spring Creek 30
* SEVEN SPRINGS -- No. 1-ranked Princeton opened up a double-digit lead in the first period and never looked back in a 66-30 rout of Carolina 1-A Conference rival Spring Creek on Wednesday night.
Ben Jacobs led the Dawgs with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Wes Wood added 15 points and 11 boards. C.J. Jeffreys and Justin Foy each finished with 12 points.
Deshar Thomas led the Gators with 10 points. Adam Haggerty added nine markers in the defeat.
Spring Creek travels to Rosewood on Friday night, while Princeton (20-0 overall, 7-0 CC) is the guest of Goldsboro.
JV sports
* Girls' basketball: Faith Christian 21, Berean Baptist 11 -- Molly Roebuck led the way for the Conquerors with eight points. Abigail Pierce added seven markers. Faith Christian finished the junior varsity season 4-3 overall.
