PRINCETON -- David Gurganus scored a game-high 18 points and Princeton defeated Hobbton 57-50 on Tuesday evening.

Patrick Jacobs and Andre Nixon each had 12 points for the Bulldogs and Nixon pulled down 12 rebounds. Dillon Daughtry added six points.

Princeton (3-4 overall) visits Raleigh Charter tonight.

CBA corrals Rams

SNOW HILL -- Charles B. Aycock placed three scorers in double figures and picked up a 67-42, non-conference win at Greene Central on Tuesday night.

Isaac Ryals led the Golden Falcons with 15 points, Khendra Reid contributed 12 and Jonathan Williams added 10. Molonza Hayes finished with seven points.

Matt Woodard, Tyheim Pitt and Kyle LaFlamme each had six points. Dacota Wilcox scored two points and pulled down six rebounds.

Desmond Shepherd paced Greene Central with eight points.

Aycock (6-2 overall) entertains North Johnston tonight.

Eagles can't hang on

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Clinging to a five-point lead with less than three minutes to play, Rosewood got sloppy with the basketball and it cost the Eagles in a 51-45 loss at Midway on Tuesday evening.

Trevor Cox led Rosewood (2-3 overall) with 13 points. Cody Harris and James Harris each supplied 10 points.

The Eagles entertain Hobbton tonight.

Leopards pounce Rebels

SALEMBURG -- North Duplin fell 85-47 at Lakewood on Tuesday.

Devin Oliver led the Rebels with 14 points. Marcus Graham scored a game-high 18 points for the Leopards (1-1).

North Duplin (0-3 overall) plays host to Hobbton on Friday.

Aycock pinned

WILSON -- Three-time defending Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference dual-team champion Charles B. Aycock started league action on the downside of a 39-37 loss to Wilson Hunt on Tuesday evening.

It was the Golden Falcons' first ECC defeat since the latest realignment in 2005.

Justin Farrell (125 pounds) and Bryan Diorio (215) recorded a decision and major decision, respectively, for Aycock. Teammates Brandon Bailey (135), Statton Paris (145), Brandon Thomas (171) and heavyweight Jarrod James each recorded a pin.

The Golden Falcons (4-4 overall, 0-1 ECC) return to action Saturday in the 13th annual Eagle Invitational at Rosewood. Aycock has won the latest two Invitational championships.

Girls' basketball

Cougars rally

Goldsboro worked past some early cold shooting and erased a seven-point, first-quarter deficit in its 65-44, non-conference victory over county rival Eastern Wayne on Tuesday evening.

The Warriors seized the advantage on the shoulders of a significant rebounding edge during the opening minutes. The Cougars' offense awoke in the during the second quarter. Akeyanna Whitlor delivered eight points during that stretch and powered Goldsboro to a 30-26 halftime advantage.

The Cougars were paced by 19 points from Ki'Ana Williams. Zearra McDuffie scored 10 of her 14 points from the free throw line. Victoria Williams added nine points.

Goldsboro (7-2 overall) visits Southern Wayne on Friday night.

Eastern Wayne was led by Danielle Daniel's 19 point outing. Tiarra McIntyre and Tia Jones each added seven points respectively.

The Warriors visit Wilson Fike tonight.

GC prevails

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central earned a 35-17 win over Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday evening.

Shonice Pettaway led all scorers with 11 points and Dominique Graham contributed nine points. T.T. Pettaway chipped in six and Jocelyn Connor had five.

Kelby Dumond and Brooke Bell each had five points for the Golden Falcons. Torie Benton added four.

The Rams (4-3 overall) host Kinston on Friday while Aycock (0-8) entertains North Johnston tonight.

RW comes up short

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Midway used an 18-4, third-quarter run to pull away from Rosewood in a 52-42, non-conference victory Tuesday evening.

Shantal Johnson led the Eagles with 14 points. Christina Bruton finished with 10 points and Sierra Lee chipped in nine. Jasmine Rich scored 12 points for Midway.

Rosewood hosts Hobbton today.

JV sports

* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro 54, Eastern Wayne 29 -- Jaren Reid led the Cougars with 12 points. Mike Sykes added nine points for Goldsboro (6-1 overall).

* Boys' basketball: Greene Central 50, C.B. Aycock 46 -- Shepard Whitfield scored a team-high 12 points for the Golden Falcons and grabbed eight rebounds. Artemius Taylor and Jalen Williams each supplied eight points. C.B. Aycock (2-4 overall) hosts North Johnston today.

* Girls basketball: Rosewood 36, Spring Creek 21 -- Holly Heath and Logan Bill each scored 10 points for the Eagles (3-3 overall, 3-0). Spring Creek's Talya Lassiter led all scorers with 15 points.
