The feast continues.
One day after securing the Class 1-A Carolina Conference regular-season title, Spring Creek emerged the tournament champion at Herman Park. The Gators, led by Jamie Johnson's singles title, edged North Johnston 17-14 on the John Allen Farfour courts.
Katy Hoff finished as the singles' runner-up and helped Rosewood claim third with seven points. Ayden-Grifton compiled six points, while North Duplin did not score.
Johnson, the No. 1 seed, lost just four games in three matches. She improved to 13-0 this season and qualified for the N.C. High School Athletic Association eastern regionals. Hoff, the No. 2 seed, outlasted Ayden-Grifton's Brandi Hughes 6-4, 7-6 (2) in semifinal-round play before falling to Johnson. Hoff also advanced to the regionals.
The Gators' Jana Kutsch-Rachel Lewis settled for runner-up honors in doubles action. The duo lost to top-seeded Amber Weaver-Sarah Wood 6-2, 6-1. Both teams will play in the regionals.
Spring Creek's other doubles of Ivey Best-Lauren Player lost to Weaver-Wood in the quarterfinals.
Rosewood's Marieke Parrish dropped her opening-round singles match to Ayden-Grifton's Raven Creech. The Eagles' doubles of Brooke Bell-Ashley Henry fell to Ayden-Grifton's Barbara Rose-Carly Gaylor 6-0, 6-0.
James Kenan's doubles of Brittany Mathis-Danielle Miller claimed the Super Six 1-A championship and earned a regional berth. They defeated teammates Holly Parrish-Morgan Rector in the finals.
Wallace-Rose Hill's Heather Casteen grabbed the Super Six singles crown with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over teammate Caitlin Rich. Casteen will participate in next week's regional.
