THOMAS SAMUEL HEATH

Thomas Samuel Heath, 80, died peacefully Sunday at home.
He enjoyed teaching driver's education in Wayne County as long as his health permitted. Tom was a passionate gardener and treasured his dogs and cats.
He was born in Lenoir County to the late Louis H. Jr. and Mary Small Heath.
Tom was a college baseball player at UNC-Pembroke and coached baseball, track and basketball during his career with the Fauquier County School System, Virginia.
Tom attended St. Stephen's Episcopal Church
Funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dave Fishman officiating. Burial will be in Kenly Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and other times at the home.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Susan Heath; two step-sons, Lt. Col. Donnie R. Yates and wife, Julie of Toano, Va., and Jason M. Horne of Charleston, S.C.; one step-daughter, Leah M. Fulkerson of Durham, N.C.; one brother, Ronald Heath and wife, Carol of Tarboro, N.C.; and four step-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cures for the Colors; St. Stephens Episcopal Church; or to the T.B. & Eva Brayboy Baseball Scholarship, UNCP Advancement Office.
