CHARLES S. CONWELL

Charles Sylvester Conwell, 84, Goldsboro, passed away early Saturday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Charles was born in Greenwood, S.C., Feb. 19, 1934, to the late Floyd Milton Conwell and Clara Harbin Conwell. He was married to the late Phyllis Martin Conwell.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and retired after 20 years of service with the rank of technical sergeant.
Following his military career, Charles began working with AP Parts in Goldsboro until his retirement.
He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
Charles was a hard-working man. He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family and took great pride in caring and providing for them.
A service to celebrate Charles’ life will be held Monday, May 21, 2018, at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with pastor Stephen Wellman officiating. Full military honors will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends Monday following the service at the cemetery and other times at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Tom Freeman.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Theresa Conwell Freeman and husband, Thomas, of Goldsboro and Cherryl Conwell Phipps and husband, Buddy, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Nisia Broadie, Kristen Freeman Evans (Brad) and Erica Renee Freeman; and great-grandchildren, Maddox Strickland and Lincoln Strickland.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Milton Conwell Jr.
