OPAL (JOYNER) TAYLOR

Opal (Joyner) Taylor, 80 Warsaw, N.C., died peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 13, 2018, after a long illness.

Born March 27, 1938, in Beautancus, Duplin County, she was the daughter of Julius Oscar and Sarah Opal (Ketscheid) Joyner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leroy Joyner; a husband, Robert Earl Taylor; and a longtime companion, Ben Newsome.

Opal was a devoted mother, who enjoyed baking, fishing, reading and spending time with her family.

She was a Presbyterian, and lived her faith in the simple acts of caring for those around her.

She is survived by a sister, Carolyn (Edgar) Rouse of Warsaw; three children, Julia Garvey of Dudley, Joseph Morris (Sue Davis) of Warsaw and Robert Apgar-Taylor (Rob Apgar) of Hagerstown, Md.; and 10 grandchildren, Siobhan Cotton, Brittany Henderson, Brittany Theirwechter, Caitlyn Rogers, Kayla Geletka, Elizabeth Rouse, Amy Bryant, Samantha Beckwith, Ryan Taylor and Chelsea Peterson.

Opal also had 11 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at Joyner Cemetery in Beautancus, N.C. , officiated by her son, the Rev. Dr. Rob Apgar-Taylor.
