Edward R. Lewis Jr., 79, died peacefully at home May 6, 2018.
Mr. Lewis was born May 15, 1938, to the late Edward R. Lewis Sr. and Sallie Farmer Lewis in Calypso, N.C.
Mr. Lewis attended North Duplin High School, and graduated from King University.
He served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps before having a career in business.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Dunn, N.C., where he served as an elder, and was also a member of the Rotary Club and the American Legion.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church of Dunn, with the Rev. Howard Dudley and Dr. Timothy Reaves officiating. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. at Calypso Cemetery in Calypso.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hilda Sutton Lewis; two daughters, Wendy Lewis Murray and husband, Elwyn Murray III, of Purcellville, Va., and Gina Lewis Basnight and husband, Michael Basnight, of Ahoskie, N.C.; five grandchildren, Sidney, Elwyn IV, Cameron, Julia and David; brother, Richard Lewis and wife, JoAnn; and sister, Meg Reaves and husband, Tom, both of Calypso, N.C.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the church.
