PEGGY GRISWOLD
Dec. 10, 1933-April 22, 2018
Margaret "Peggy" Ann Hawkins Griswold died Sunday from complications of Alzheimer's after a long struggle with the disease.
Peggy was the only child of Margaret Gill and Albert Truett Hawkins of Goldsboro.
She was a 1952 graduate of Goldsboro High School, and attended Salem College.
Her beloved husband of 55 years, Richard F. Griswold, died in 2010.
Peggy is survived by two daughters, Margaret Teasley and husband, Barry Teasley, of Goldsboro and Pickett Smith and her husband, Chris Smith, and their children, Christopher and Truett all of Fayetteville.
Peggy will be remembered for her quick smile, the twinkle in her eye, her beautiful flower arrangements and the pretty watercolors she painted.
In earlier years, she enjoyed working in retail with friends, Sally Gardner and Dennis and Tommy Bell, and later their wives, Martha and Cissy.
For many entertaining years, she had fun working with Lew and Conway Rose at the Country Shop.
Throughout her married life, Peggy was a devout member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and a member of the altar guild.
She was also involved in the Community Arts Council, Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and other civic activities.
The family thanks all of Peggy's devoted sitters and the kind employees at Countryside Village, Eagle's Pointe and Community Hospice.
A private graveside service will be held at Willowdale Cemetery.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
