HOWARD LEON EXUM

Howard Leon Exum was born April 27, 1948, in Wayne County, N.C. He departed this life Jan. 8, 2018.
Howard was the son of the late George Buchanan Exum and Mary Eliza Jones Exum.
He attended Shaw University.
He graduated from Norwayne High School in Wayne County, N.C., and was a proud member of Norwayne Alumni Family and Friends Inc.
Howard was employed for many years as a corrections officer for the government of the District of Columbia's Department of Corrections.
He is survived by his sister, Mamie P. Sutton of Newport News, Va., and a host of nieces and nephews, including Milton D. McClain of Wilson, N.C.
Services will be held in Eureka, N.C., Feb. 17, 2018, 11 a.m. at Eureka First Baptist Church, 108 S. Baker St., where he was a member.
Afterward, family members will gather to spread his ashes in historical John C. Exum I Family Cemetery, located in Wayne County off N.C. 222 outside of Eureka, N.C.
The family appreciates the many condolences and well wishes expressed during this time of grief.
