WALTER L. HICE

Mr. Walter Lynn Hice, 72, Snow Hill, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 18, 2017.
A native of Caldwell County, he was born March 26, 1945.
Lynn was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served for 12 years, and had retired following 28 years of Civil Service at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
An avid hunter, Lynn loved the outdoors, and thoroughly enjoyed the college football and basketball seasons, where he pulled for the University of North Carolina Tarheels.
Lynn was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Carol Bass Hice; loving mother, Ruth Hice; loving grandmother, Martha Hice; and a grandson, Donald George "Baby Trey" Sowney III.
His surviving family includes his daughter, Lindsay Michelle Hice Sowney of Snow Hill; Lindsay's mother, Nancy Harrell of Goldsboro; stepson, William Robert "Bubba" Jarman and wife, Tammy, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Lyndon GraceAnne Sowney and Natalie Danielle Sowney; sisters, Wanda "Peedie" Bumgarner of Hudson, Paula Opper and husband, Alex, of Hickory, and Marsha Winkler also of Hudson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Hice Family Cemetery, located at 1890 Shine Road, Snow Hill, N.C.
The family will receive friends Saturday following the service and other times at the residence.
