PATRICIA HINES HOUTZ
March 30, 1937-July 1, 2017
Patricia Hines Houtz passed away peacefully, and joined the love of her life, Fred, July 1, 2017. She was surrounded by her loving children.
Born March 30, 1937, in Mount Olive, N.C., she attended Meredith College, where she met her future husband, a North Carolina State engineering student and member of SAE fraternity.
Their 47-year marriage was spent raising their children, caring for their parents and spending their retirement at their beach home in North Myrtle Beach.
Though they were separated for 12 years beyond their control, we believe they will once again enjoy endless days at the beach and evenings reading and eating ice cream with their faithful shelties, Blue and Nicky, by their side.
Family always came first, and Patricia instilled this ideal in her children throughout their lifetime. In addition to providing a home for her husband and children, she spent time with all six of her grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life.
Our family is grateful to Mother for the beautiful times and great memories we have of everyone being together. Her love of family, sense of hospitality and generosity created these moments.
Patricia was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth S. Hines and Reginald R. Hines, and her husband, Alfred William Houtz Jr.
She is survived by her children, Margot H. Huffines (Hart), Alfred William Houtz III and Michelle Lawlor Kindsvatter (Rob), and six grandchildren, William Jacob Murphy, Kaitlin Elizabeth Murphy, Sydney Elizabeth Houtz, Alfred William Houtz IV (Will), Emma Elisabeth Kindsvatter and Lily Hines Kindsvatter.
She is also survived by her three siblings, Emma Katherine Sutton (Lloyd), Reginald R Hines Jr. (Judy) and Shirley Lazorik (Bob) all of whom reside in Mount Olive.
She was loved dearly by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life will take place Saturday July 8, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, N.C., 27605.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Crane, Mother's oncologist, for his wisdom and kind words of support during her journey; Esther, who was not only a wonderful caregiver to our mom, but a tremendous support to her children; and the nurses with Transitions Hospice, who also took great care of her.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Transitions Hospice, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, N.C., 27607.
Or as our mother would want, please spend time with your family and loved ones.
