Johnnie Murphy Naylor, 79, Pinetops, beloved husband, father, Papa, brother and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, April 1, 2017.
He leaves his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Harrell Naylor; sons, Jeffrey (Wendy) and Edward (Sheryl); five grandchildren, Jonathan (Ashley), Jocelyn, Hannah, Mary Roslyn and Whitley; brother, David (Betty); and sisters Helen Potts (Leslie) and Betty Sasser (Glenn).
He was predeceased in death by his parents, Katie (Johnson) Naylor Barwick and P.R. Naylor; brother Tillman; sisters, Ruby and Louise; and a grandson, Jordan Naylor.
Johnnie was born in St. Pauls, N.C., in 1937, grew up at the Kennedy Home in Kinston, N.C., and graduated from LaGrange High School.
He served in the United States Army before engaging in a long business career, including founding a successful company.
He was active in the community, serving in many ways, including being deacon and Sunday school teacher at Pinetops Baptist Church, and in other capacities.
Johnnie served on the Edgecombe County Board of Education and on the board of directors of Stoney Creek Rescue Squad.
Visitation was Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home of Tarboro, N.C., and funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pinetops Baptist Church of Pinetops, N.C., with the Rev. John Melancon officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery of Pinetops with military honors.
