Mrs. Margaret Corbett Ham, 97, Snow Hill, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Snow Hill Assisted Living Center, where Mrs. Ham had resided in recent years.
A native of Greene County, she was born Jan. 26, 1920, the daughter of John and Johnnie Moore Corbett.
The widow of Lonnie O. Ham, together they established their home in the Shine community of Greene County.
Mrs. Ham was a homemaker and hairdresser, working well into her 80s and only retiring when her health forced it.
A member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, she had been active in the choir, taught Sunday school and had served as the superintendent of Sunday school.
She loved her home and community, taking great pride in her yard and always visiting and remembering the shut-ins who lived around her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ham was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Ham Wiggins, and many siblings.
Her surviving family includes her daughter, Susan Ham Hale and husband, Brad, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Jarrett Lassiter and wife, Najshula, of Clinton, Justin Lassiter and wife, Kristin, of Princeton, Shawn Wiggins of Goldsboro and Krista W. Sandlin and husband, Jerry, of Pink Hill; stepgrandsons, Brooks Hale and wife, Kelly, of Kinston and Justin Hale and wife, Julie, of Pocatello, Idaho; great-grandchildren, Hunter Lassiter, Wyatt Lassiter, Graham Lassiter, Jackson Lassiter, Cade Sandlin, Kelsey S. Harper, Kinsley Lassiter and Hadley Lassiter; stepgreat-grandchildren, Ryder, Levi, Jonah and Zoe Hale; a great-great-granddaughter, Macey Harper; a brother, Russell Corbett and wife, Joyce, of Snow Hill; and special friend she considered an adopted son, Harold Harper of Snow Hill.
Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Friday, March 17, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with the Rev. Marvin Wiggins officiating. Committal services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Snow Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening immediately following the service.
The family would like to express its appreciation to the staff of Snow Hill Assisted Living for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Ham during her residence there.
