Neville Ormond Whitted Sr., 79, Harkers Island, N.C., got to hug his Mama and Daddy in front of Jesus Saturday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2017.
He was a farmer for more than 30 years, and later the owner and operator of Mount Olive Florist with his wife.
Mr. Whitted called Mount Olive and Calypso home for many years before moving to Harkers Island.
He was a member of Smyrna Pentecostal Holiness Church in Smyrna.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church, with pastor Jeff Dail officiating.
Visitation will follow the service.
A private family burial will take place on Harkers Island.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Wells Whitted, his lifelong sweetheart of 63 years, of the home; son, Ormond Whitted, Jr. and wife, Lori, of Mount Olive; daughter, Ann W. Lewis and husband, Mike, of the home; grandson, Graham Whitted and wife, Amber, of Mar Mac and their children, Avery, Taylor and Rowen; grandson, Cody Whitted of Rose Hill; granddaughter, Annsley Lewis of the home; brother, Leslie Ray Whitted and wife, Mamie Lou, of Mount Olive; and several close sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vara Whitted; sister, Francis Odom; and brother, Joe Gray Whitted.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Ormond will be spending his days fishing on the salty waters in heaven with his close friend, Louis Wooten.
