Joseph E. “Junior” Dones passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at his home.
Joe was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Jan. 31, 1954, to the late Louise Barnes and Joseph Dones Sr.
A service celebrating Joe’s life will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Payne Temple AME Zion Church in Mount Olive, N.C., with the Rev. Sylvester Smith officiating. Interment will be held Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goldsboro, N.C.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 20 years, Deborah Johnson-Dones; one daughter; three stepdaughters; five grandchildren; five brothers; seven sisters; and a host of nieces, nephews and family members.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Viewing will take place Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, from 3 to 6 p.m. The family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home.
