Marie Nelson Peterson, 88, of Goldsboro died on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
Marie was born in Merrimon, N.C. on Jan. 7, 1928 to the late Leslie and Lillian Nelson. She was a graduate of Goldsboro High School and was a telephone operator for Southern Bell. She was an avid letter writer and never missed sending a birthday card to loved ones. She was at her happiest surrounded by family and enjoying a good meal.
A service celebrating Marie’s life will be held privately for the family at a later date.
Marie is survived by her brothers, Ellis Nelson of Greensboro, Robert Nelson of Sneads Ferry and Jimmie Nelson of Goldsboro, and friend and neighbor, Richard Downs. Although she had no children of her own she was mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Peterson; brothers, Edward, William and Gordon Nelson; and sisters, Louise Casey, Laura Smith and Helen Sorrow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
