Lucy Britt Daughtry, 98, long-time resident of Mount Olive, passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, at Willow Creek Nursing Center in Goldsboro.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, at 1 p.m. in the Maplewood Cemetery of Mount Olive. Officiating will be the Rev. Marti Hatch and the Rev. Russ Nunnery. Following the service, the family will remain at the cemetery to receive friends for a brief time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 420, Mount Olive, N.C. 28365, to honor her memory.
Mrs. Daughtry is survived by two grandsons, George William Daughtry IV of the home and Michael Borden Daughtry of Dudley; and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Marie Sutton Shroeder of Dudley.
She was preceded in death by her son, George William “Billy” Daughtry III; her husband, George William “Bill” Daughtry Jr.; a grandson, Jason Alan Daughtry Shroeder; her parents, Leamon and Lola Britt; and her sister, Pattie Britt Elzas.
Mrs. Daughtry had been a school teacher with the Duplin County Schools. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive, where she utilized her teaching talents in teaching a Sunday school class for a long time. She had been active in youth activities at the church and she, along with her family, were actively involved in the Mount Olive Boys and Girls Club, and it was because of her family’s dedication and positive influence in the area’s youth, that Daughtry Field was named in honor of her family.
