Fess Simmons Jr., son of the late Thessalonia "Fess" Simmons Sr. and Queen Esther Sauls Simmons, was born June 29, 1952, in Wayne County, N.C. He entered into eternal peace Nov. 24, 2016, in Fayetteville, Ga.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. James Church of Christ of Fremont. Burial with military honors will take place Monday at noon in Eastern Carolina Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation begins Sunday, Dec. 4, until Friday, Dec. 9, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Core residence, 357 Piedmont Airline Road, Goldsboro.
A loving and devoted husband and father, Fess was a true pillar of strength to his family, siblings and community.
Cherishing his memories are his wife, Brenda Simmons of Fayetteville, Ga.; two daughters, Stephanie Fields of Norfolk, Va., and Crystal Jones of Atlanta, Ga.; eight siblings, Carolyn (Douglas) Core of Goldsboro, N.C., Bessie (Anthony) Holmes of Greensboro, N.C., David (Christine) Simmons of Goldsboro, N.C., Herman (Vicki) Simmons of Goldsboro, N.C., Nathan Simmons of Atlanta, Ga., Pamela (Darryl) Braswell of Durham, N.C., Gerald (Samantha) Simmons of Goldsboro, N.C., and Corey (Kenesha) Simmons of Goldsboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Khadija Fields and Jonathan Powell Jr. of Norfolk, Va.; a special cousin, Bobby Lewis of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and dear friends.
