RANDY L. THORNTON
July 12, 1957-Nov. 30, 2016
Randy Leon Thornton, 59, resident of the Suttontown community near Faison, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Wayne Hospital.
Randy had served in the United States Army.
Mechanically inclined, he enjoyed working with his hands. Referred to as a jack-of-all-trades kind of guy, he loved the farming way of life, and for a long number of years, he had been employed with Glenn McCullen Farms, and was the "right hand man."
In the past, he had also been a truck driver.
Randy dearly loved his family, especially his kids. One of the greatest joys of his life was taking a family vacation to Disney World just this past summer, where he witnessed great happiness and joy and wide smiles on the faces of his children.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, David Leon Thornton, and his father-in-law, Rommie Herring.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Herring Thornton, and their children, Daniel Thornton and Cindy Thornton all of the home; his mother, Gaynelle L. Thornton of Suttontown; a sister and brother-in-law, Tammy T. and Perry Sutton of Suttontown; nieces, Anna McCullen of Greensboro and Meredith Sutton of Suttontown; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth "Jim" Herring of Mount Olive; and a sister-in-law, Lesley H. Mossey of Raleigh.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at Thornton Family Cemetery of Suttontown, with the Rev. Glenn McCullen officiating.
Friends and family are being received at the home of his sister at 460 Marsh Kornegay Road, Faison.
Mr. Thornton will lie in state at Tyndall Funeral Home until noon Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Tyndall Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses will be appreciated.
