JESSICA GAINEY THOMPSON

Jessica Gainey Thompson, 77, Goldsboro, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by her family.
Jessica was born in Wayne County Nov. 30, 1938, to the late Britton R. Gainey and Lois Cox Gainey. She was married to the late Norwood B. "Pete" Thompson.
Jessica enjoyed the opportunities given to her by helping to impact the lives of so many students as a teacher's assistant at Rosewood Elementary School.
She was a member of teaching associations, which included the NCATA and the Wayne County Teacher Assistant Association.
Jessica loved Pine Forest United Methodist Church, and was a dedicated and faithful member. She was also a lifetime member of the Methodist Women.
She had a large extended circle of family and friends, and they were all very special to her.
Her life was filled with humility, kindness and a love for others, especially the children she had cared for, that she displayed every time she smiled. She will be missed, but greatly remembered.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, followed by a service celebrating Jessica's life at 11:30 a.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Madison Hankal officiating. Interment will conclude the service in the church cemetery.
Jessica is survived by her sons, Britt Thompson and wife, Dona, of Florida and Chris Thompson and wife, Kimberly, of High Point; daughter, Neva Hartzog of Rosewood; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Janet Collie of Fayetteville, and brother, Don Gainey and wife, Lisa, of Smithfield.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Perry Gainey.
