EUGENE REX CAIN

April 4, 1933-April 15, 2016

Eugene Rex "Tooney" Cain, 83, Wilson, was called home Friday, April 15, 2016, to the loving arms of Jesus Christ his Lord while surrounded by his family at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Tooney was born in Paris, Ky., April 4, 1933, to the late Edmund Cain and Dorothea Stull Biddle Cain.

After graduating from Paris High School, Tooney attended the University of Kentucky.

He was a proud Kentucky Wildcats fan, and had been appointed by the Kentucky Governor to serve as a Kentucky Colonel.

Tooney had a successful career as a financial analyst with Diago, a financial company based out of London, England.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Tooney was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Goldsboro. He was devoted to his church, and served as president of the J. Paul Edwards Sunday school class.

Tooney was also a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club.

Tooney enjoyed gardening, but above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

He had a huge heart, always giving and reaching out to others; there wasn't a stranger he hadn't met.

Tooney loved to make people laugh. Most will remember the joy that Tooney's presence would bring.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 18, 2016, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the church parlor of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

A service celebrating Tooney's life will follow at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. James Harry and the Rev. Phyllis Vail officiating.

Tooney is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Helen Carroll Cain; a daughter, Lesli Carroll Roberson and husband, Steven, of Wilson; and his grandchildren, Ryan Roberson and wife, Betsy, Brett Roberson and wife, Jamison, Derek Roberson and Jennifer Joyner and husband, Jason;

His great grandchildren include Wade, Logan, Quinlan, Cristian, Sebastian, Nicholas, Christopher, Max and Charlotte.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Fryman.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to the Senior Companion Fund at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 204 E. Chestnut St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
