GRACE SMITH
Aug. 20, 1942-Jan. 10, 2016
Edna Grace Brogden Smith earned her wings and went to be with her Lord and savior Jan. 10, 2016, with her family keeping watch over her. She courageously fought an uphill battle with complications from Lewy Body Dementia.
Grace was born Aug. 20, 1942, to William Pierce Brodgen and Sadie Grady Brogden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Rodney Brogden.
Grace was a registrar for the Girl Scouts of Coastal Carolina until her retirement in 2007.
She was an avid reader, and loved to put together jigsaw puzzles.
She was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church for many years. She was an active member of the Ambassadors Sunday school class, Ladies Circle and Tuesday morning prayer group, and loved to sing in the choir.
Her most favorite activity was spending time with her family. She attended every event possible her grandchildren were involved in.
Grace was a gentle soul, who was kind to everyone. Everyone loved "Mrs. Grace."
Grace is survived by her daughter, Donna Carol Smith of Goldsboro; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Kimberly Smith of Goldsboro; her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Greg Turnage; her sister-in-law, Joan Brogden; her much loved grandchildren, Amanda, Elizabeth and Carrie Ann Beckert, Kaitlyn and Kylie Smith and Brittany Ingram; her nephews, David "De" and Timmy Turnage and Tony McCabe; special friend of the family, Derek Neal; and the father of her children and former husband, Milton Smith.
She also had many cousins whom she loved very much.
The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times, at the home of her son.
A celebration of Grace's life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Barry Williamson and the Rev. Johnny Sullivan. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
The family would like to thank those who helped care for our Grace at Wayne Memorial Hospital and especially those at Kitty Askins. A special thank you to Donna Herring and Lynn Smith.
We would also like to thank everyone who called, visited, prayed and supported us through this journey, especially our co-workers at Wayne County Farm Bureau and Arthur Family Dentistry. We mourn her passing, but rejoice in her healing and her heavenly reward.
Although flowers are welcome, memorial may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
