NELLIE BROCK ROSE

Nov. 29, 1917-Nov. 25, 2015

Nellie Brock Rose, longtime resident of Garner's Chapel community near Mount Olive, found eternal peace with her savior early Wednesday evening, Nov. 25. Death came just four days shy of her 98th birthday.

A native of near Beautancus, she was raised as a member at Bear Marsh Missionary Baptist Church, and upon her marriage to Morris W. Rose, she united with Garner's Chapel Baptist Church.

Being a farmer's wife and homemaker, she found pleasure in life's simplest things, like growing a bountiful vegetable garden, tending to and producing the prettiest flowers, picking up turkey feathers in the yard, assisting on the farm with related chores, being a good neighbor in visiting the sick, cooking a full course country meal every day for "the boys" and allowing her home to be "the headquarters" for the family farm and as the gathering spot for grandchildren and their friends.

Friends and family will reflect upon her piano playing talents, her simplicity in making everyday things be special and her ability to make each family member feel like he or she was the most special one of all.

Funeral services will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home Saturday, Nov. 28, at 3:30 p.m., with the Rev. M. Carlisle Franks and her son, the Rev. Paul Rose, officiating.

Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.

Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be made to Steele Memorial Library, 119 W. Main St., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.

"Miss Nell" is survived by her six children and their spouses, Libby Rose Summerlin of Goldsboro, Earl and Barbara Rose of Clayton, Cecil and Debbie Rose, the Rev. Paul and Betty Sue Rose and Thomas "Tom" and Genele Rose all of Mount Olive and Bill and Janet Rose of Calypso; a sister-in-law, Ernestine S. Brock of Mount Olive; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews from both the Brock and Rose sides of the family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris W. Rose; a grandson, John M. Rose; her three brothers; and two sisters.

A Tyndall service.
