ANN DIXON EDGERTON DUNSTAN

Anna Dixon Edgerton Dunstan peacefully relocated to heaven at 5:47 p.m. May 12, 2015, surrounded by love at Spring Arbor in Kill Devil Hills, N.C.
Born Sept. 11,1924, Ann was raised in Goldsboro, N.C., as the middle child of Cedric Errol Edgerton and Grace Slaughter Edgerton.
After graduating Goldsboro High School, she continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she received her degree in elementary education.
She then traveled several states before settling in Elizabeth City, where she met, married and shared life with the late Garland Herrington Dunstan.
Her love of children was evident by her long career of teaching elementary school. Later she enjoyed teaching kindergarten and pre-K at Ding-Dong School.
Ann was very active in First United Methodist Church, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution and many other volunteer groups.
Her favorite pastime was bridge, which she loved playing in several clubs and groups.
She is survived by her sister Jean E. Winch of New Jersey; her three sons, Garland H. "Gary" Dunstan Jr. of Nags Head, Cedric Edgerton Dunstan of Elizabeth City and John Forrest Dunstan of Kill Devil Hills; five grandchildren, Amanda Dunstan, Suzi Dunstan Aycock, Jennifer Dunstan, Forrest Dunstan and Sydney Dunstan; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Slaughter Edgerton.
A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church on the corner of Road and Church streets in Elizabeth City Friday, May 15, 2015, at 2 p.m., with a reception immediately following.
The family will also receive guests from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday evening at the home of John Dunstan, 212 Tower Lane in Kill Devil Hills, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be shared with the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or Elizabeth City First United Methodist Church (ecfumc.org).
The Dunstan family is served by Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, N.C.
