On the morning of March 19, 2015, in Fort Collins, Colo., we lost another member of the worlds, "Greatest Generation," our husband, father and grandfather Claiborne Hill, a former resident of Goldsboro and Garner, N.C.

Claiborne was born on Sept. 24, 1918, in Petersburg, Va. to the late William and Rosa Delia (Collier) Hill.

He was a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He joined the Army Air Corp and served from 1941 until 1945, followed by years in the reserve.

He also served in World War II as a pilot.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Verna Mae Hill; daughters, Barbara Hill of Wilmington and Peggy Hill Hemenway (Kenneth) of Goldsboro; stepsons, Earl Paige (Kris) and Bruce Paige (Xioyan); grandchildren, Wendy Stancil, Chris Hemenway, Matthew Hemenway, Brian Paige, Terence Paige, Jennie Maldonado, Jenny McNamara and Michael Paige; great-grandchildren, Alex Hemenway, Reyna and Belica Maldonado and Charlotte McNamara; and a very special cousin, Bill Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Pathways Hospice, 305 Carpenter Road, Fort Collins, Colo., 80525.
