GUY B. ROBERTS

April 4, 1931-Feb. 23, 2014

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Guy Bridgers Roberts, passed away suddenly at his home in the early morning of Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. He was in his 83rd year.

In his final moments, he was in the company of his loving wife, Ada Margaret. This was a tender mercy of the Lord, as Ada's company was something he always desired.

A service celebrating Guy's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with bishop Brian Rouse presiding. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at his home.

Guy was born in Wayne County April 4, 1931, to the late James Henry Roberts and Irma Ellis Roberts.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a jet propulsion mechanic.

Following his military service, Guy worked at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in civil service, retiring after 34 years of service as a non-destructive inspector, where he was the first civilian employee supervisor to orchestrate the implementation of this section at this base.

He also was a partner with his brother, the late Hugh Roberts, in R and R Development and Evergreen Estates.

Guy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in various capacities, including stake high counselor, ward bishop, as well as other various stake callings. He loved the savior, and believed that if you put him at the center of your life, everything else would fall into place.

He was humble, compassionate and generous to a fault. Guy had unbelievable optimism, a boyish grin and kind words for all. His warmth and compassion for others was unparalleled.

Guy's greatest joy was his family or, as he called them, his "sunshines." He preferred to spend time with his wife, four daughters, 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He simply adored his wife, the former Ada Margaret Barfield, whom he was married to for 55 years. They were always off on some adventure together. Guy will forever live on through those surviving him.

In addition to his wife, Guy lives on through his daughters, Dona Roberts Briggs and husband, Steve, Dena Roberts Creger and husband, Robert, Dayna Roberts Herring and husband, Stacy, and Diane Roberts Netchaeff and husband, Paul; grandchildren, Elliot and wife, Heather, Spenser and wife, Rachel, Bridgette and Elisa Briggs, Bryce, Bailee and Blaine Creger, Jessica and Cayce Herring, Nichole Netchaeff Brown and husband, Ben, and Haley, Jordan and Guylar Netchaeff; and great-grandchildren, Kadence, Westen, Sienna, Christian, Bennett and Braelee.

He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou Roberts Basden of Mount Olive; sisters-in-law, Julia Roberts of Charlotte and Joanne Roberts of Goldsboro; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Guy was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Roberts and Hugh Roberts.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Guy's memory to the family history center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Monetary memorial donations can be sent to the Family History Center via Jerome Tew at 600 Gloucester Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
