SMITHFIELD -- "Scooter" Michael Edward Vaughan, 60, died Sunday evening in Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro surrounded by his family.
Born Oct. 4, 1953, in Richmond, Va., he was a son of the late Sudie Stephens Vaughan and Carl Vaughan of Goldsboro.
Michael was a devoted member of Tee's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where he was currently an active deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Michael loved fishing, fellowshipping with his church family and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren every chance he could.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Tee's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Pollock and the Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Teresa Howell Vaughan of the home; son, Chris Vaughan of Smithfield; daughter, Michelle Woodall and husband, Brian, of Smithfield; grandchildren, Noah Vaughan, Kailee Vaughan, Conner Woodall, Caleb Woodall and Cayden Woodall; a brother; and a sister.
