MOUNT OLIVE -- Jerry Wayne Pickett, 64, Pleasant Grove community near Mount Olive, passed away late Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 16, 2013, at his home.
A service to remember Jerry's life will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Chapel in Mount Olive, and will be followed by visitation. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Geoffrey A. Carter.
Jerry was a retired volunteer fireman with Pleasant Grove Fire Department, and he was one of its charter
members.
He was a lifelong crop and swine farmer, and was a master mechanic, having operated Pickett's Garage with his son.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Bradley Pickett of the home; his children and their mates, Russ Pickett and Angie Wells and Christy B. and Kevin Price; two grandchildren, Hannah Price and Bradley Pickett; and a niece, Melissa "Missy" Bell Cavenaugh and her family all of whom are residents of the Pleasant Grove community.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Russell M. "Jabo" and Beadie Evelyn "Teet" Pickett, and a sister, Shirley P. Bell.
It is the wishes of the family that, instead of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Groundbreakers Ministries, 3110 Rouse Road, Kinston, N.C., 28504.
