Edward Emerson Phillips, 83, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Ed was born in Wayne County April 7, 1930, to the late Alphonso and Cora Pilkington Phillips.
He was employed for more than 25 years at Kemp Furniture, and later owned and operated a lawn service in Goldsboro, Ed's Lawn Service.
Ed lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community. He served his community many ways as a member and past president of Goldsboro Downtown Lions Club.
Ed was a member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as an usher and Men's Ministry director, and was involved in many activities where he utilized his gifts and abilities to share the love of God.
A graveside service for the family will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with pastor Bill Rose officiating.
Ed is survived by his wife of 63 years, Faye Pittman Phillips; sons, Danny Phillips of Goldsboro and Tony Phillips and wife, Vicki, of Goldsboro; brother, Bernice Phillips and wife, Louise, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Mitchell Phillips and wife, Mary Beth, and Rebecca Harris and husband, Will; and a great-grandson, Greyson Phillips.
The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ed's memory to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
