MATTIE AMMONS COTTINGHAM NORTON

CHARLOTTE -- Mattie Ammons Cottingham Norton, 103, Charlotte, passed away at Liberty Care Center Sept. 26, 2013.
Mrs. Norton was born July 12, 1910, in Clio, S.C., and was the daughter of the late Luther E. Ammons and Minnie Bryant Ammons.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother with a sweet disposition and a terrific sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by her family, who dearly loved her.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Currie of Florence, S.C., John Cottingham (Ellen) of Kapolei, Hawaii, Doris Hinnant of Goldsboro, N.C., Pat Pigg (Jerry) of Charlotte and Tommy Cottingham (Louise) also of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John K. Cottingham; second husband, William C. Norton; sister, Fay Brittain; and brothers, Ansel Ammons, Frank Ammons and Reese Ammons.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral and Cremation Service, with the Rev. Rodger Sellers officiating. Interment followed the service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
Visitation was one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements were in the care of Forest Lawn West Funeral and Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
