NOGGIE SMITH

Noggie Smith, 89, 326 Perkins Mill Road, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Born in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Harvey D. and Amanda Adams Smith, and husband of the late Madge Smith.
Noggie was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II, and being a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds he received during the Battle of the Bulge.
He attended Rosewood Church of God, and was a member of the Purple Heart Association.
He operated Noggie's Radio and TV Service from 1955 through 1967, and then became a dispatcher for the Goldsboro Fire Department, which later merged with the Goldsboro Police Department, from which he retired in 1983.
A service to celebrate Noggie's life will be held Saturday, June 1, at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom McClendon officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Nancy J. Smith; sons, Milton and Jeanette Smith and Danny Smith all of Goldsboro; a daughter, Brenda G. and Gerald Casey of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Jeff Smith and wife, Kim, Donna Smith Beckert, Matt Smith, Eddie Casey and wife, Robin, Brian Casey and Jennifer Casey; and eight great-grandchildren.
Family members will greet friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times will be at the home.
