MELVIN GERALD POPLIN

Melvin Gerald Poplin, 77, of 6851 Princeton Kenly Road, Princeton, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Always Compassionate Family Care in Fremont.
The funeral service was Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 6 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Michael Coppock and Alan Strickland officiating. The burial will be today, Dec. 23, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Stanly Gardens of Memories Cemetery in Albemarle, with the Rev. Nathan Fox officiating.
He was born June 4, 1935, to Lois Poplin and the late Offie Alexander Poplin.
Mr. Poplin graduated from Liberty High School and Guilford College. He received his master's degree from Appalachian State University. Mr. Poplin had 31 years as an educator and coach as well as an assistant principal. He worked in several counties including Craven, Stanly, Warren, Anson, Iredell and Johnston counties.
Mr. Poplin is survived by his wife, Daphne Capel Poplin; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Poplin Rumble and Gavin of Lexington; a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie Poplin and Rhonda of Princeton; and sisters and brother-in-law, Marlene Poplin Smith and Darrell of Norwood and Susie Poplin Lisk of Norwood. He had four grandchildren, Andrea Rumble, Blake Rumble, Trent Poplin and Garrett Poplin; and many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Casey Funeral Home Chapel.
Although flowers are welcome, the family suggests contributions be made to Community Hospice.
