PIKEVILLE--Clifton Douglas Gurley, 75, died early Sunday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Douglas was born in Wayne County on Nov. 3, 1937 to the late Clifton M. Gurley and Ruby Sasser Gurley. He served his country in the North Carolina National Guard and for over 20 years, Douglas owned and operated Gurley Septic Tank Service. Douglas lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community. He was a life-long member of Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he sang in the choir for many years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Merrill Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmore Family Cemetery in Goldsboro.
Douglas is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anne Elmore Gurley; daughter, Angie Mozingo and husband, Stan of Pikeville; son, Jamie D. Gurley and wife Anne of Pikeville; and his three grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye, Tanner Mozingo, Austin Gurley and Elizabeth Gurley. He is also survived by his sisters, Peggy Sasser of Goldsboro and Joan Smith and husband, Randy of Monahans, Tex.; his brother, David Gurley and wife, Betty Jean of Goldsboro; and special friends, Elbert and Betty Jo Richardson, and Cecil and Judy Lane.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
