GREENSBORO -- Mrs. Carolyn Hollingsworth Austell, 87, Greensboro, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Friends Home West.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church Chapel by Dr. Stephen Pressley. Interment will follow Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville.
Carolyn was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Wayne County, the daughter of Luther and Annie Garner Hollingsworth.
Carolyn grew up in Goldsboro, and graduated from Women's College in Greensboro in 1946 with a business degree.
Following her college graduation, she taught business education in Thomasville, where she met James C. Austell. They married July 2, 1949.
She was a devoted wife and mother, and enjoyed cooking, needlework and playing bridge.
She loved her church, First Baptist, where she was a member of the Love Sunday school class.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 2002, and her daughter, Anne, in 1976.
Surviving are her daughter, Millicent Flake and husband, Keith, of Sugar Valley, Ga., and her grandson, Adam Austell Flake of Atlanta, Ga.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, N.C., 27401.
