Charles Curtis McDonough, 82, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Charles was born in Etowah County, Ala., Nov. 3, 1929, to the late Joseph Charles McDonough and Emma Lou Hobson McDonough.
He served 20 years in the United States Air Force, and retired as senior master sergeant in 1969.
Charles later retired again from Kmart, where he made many lifelong friends.
He was a member of the NRA and Republican Party, and a longtime member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church.
Charles also enjoyed playing the trombone in the Starlight Dance Band and at Madison Avenue Baptist Church.
He also enjoyed playing lunchtime Bingo at the NCO Club at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Fulkerson officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Charles is survived by his wife, Charlie Jean Payne McDonough of 62 years; his sister, Betty Sue Nelson of Attalla, Ala.; his children, Alan Curtis McDonough of Greenville, Barbara Jean Ferguson of Staunton, Va., Janet Gayle Richardson of Pompano Beach, Fla., and David Charles McDonough of Tampa, Fla.; his grandchildren, Alan McDonough Jr., Jason McDonough and wife, Billie Jean, Brandon McDonough, Billy Ferguson and wife, Lori, Fairland Ferguson, Carl Richardson and wife, Tiffini, Marie Richardson Corbin and husband, Nick, Jennifer McDonough and Scott McDonough and wife, Christi; his four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 24, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Madison Avenue Baptist Church at 300 S. Madison Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
