GEORGE CLIFTON "CLIFF" WIGGINS

Oct. 12, 1927-April 9, 2012

GASTONIA -- Mr. George Clifton "Cliff" Wiggins, 84, Greenville, S.C., died Monday, April 9, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Goldsboro, the oldest of eight children, to the late James Madison and Verdie Beatrice Sanderson Wiggins.

Cliff moved to Gastonia with his family when he was 12 years old.

He became an optician, and was owner and operator of Robertson Optical Laboratory in Greenville, S.C., for 40 years.

He was a Shriner and member of the Walden Lodge in Taylors, S.C., and attended Rankin Lake Baptist Church in Gastonia.

Cliff was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed spending time at his home in Oak Island.

He was a loving, caring and giving person, who through his strong faith, actively ministered to others without care for recognition. He was a devoted family man, who is dearly missed.

Survivors of Mr. Wiggins include his loving wife of 66 years, Sarah Deane Cole Wiggins of Greenville, S.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Bill James; grandchildren, Angela Hollingsworth and husband, Steven, and Will James and wife, Jenna, all of Lake Wylie, S.C., Jon Stephens and Eric Stephens, both of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; five great-grandchildren; siblings and spouses, Donald Lee and Lola Wiggins of Indian Land, S.C., Shirley and Julian Howell of Greenville, S.C., Bobby Wayne Wiggins of Gastonia, Ronnie Thomas and Sandra Wiggins of DeLand, Fla., and Brenda Faye and Don McCombs of Bessemer City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wiggins was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Stephens, and his sisters, Evelyn Wiggins Jenkins and Elizabeth Diane Davis.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Linwood Church of God with pastor Randal Phillips officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park.
