Julia Frances Barbour Ezzell Parker, 69, passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer at Duke Raleigh Hospital.
Fran was born in Johnston County on Nov. 20, 1942, to Ruby Cole Barbour and the late Roland Barbour.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. today, Feb. 12, 2012, at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service in the chapel with the Rev. Glenn Mills officiating. Interment will be on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Princeton Cemetery. At other times the family will be at Fran's home.
Fran is survived by her beloved daughter, Regina Lynn Ezzell of Rosewood, (daughter of Gordon Ezzell); her mother, Ruby Barbour; one sister, Donna Langley and husband, Danny; her nephew, Danny Bryan and wife, Kim; her great-nephew, Bryan and great-niece, Heather, all of Princeton, and many devoted loving friends and neighbors.
Fran grew up in Princeton and graduated from Princeton High School in 1961. She was raised in Princeton Baptist Church and began playing piano there at age 14. Later she became a member of Westwood United Methodist Church, where she was pianist for over 20 years, taught the Young Adult Sunday School Class and was a member of the Methodist Women's Group. Fran was the organist and pianist for many weddings and events. She taught piano to special request students.
After graduating from Princeton High School, she attended Mary Elizabeth Nursing School and received her RN degree from the University of New York and completed her post graduate course work at Duke University. Fran practiced nursing for three years in Florida, 10 years at Wayne Memorial Hospital, 12 years at Cherry Hospital, eight years at O'Berry Center, three years at Pitt Memorial Hospital and retired in 1994. Fran's friends called upon her many times for a home antidote when sick or stitching up from an accident and nicknamed her "Dr. Fran." And she always welcomed you to sit for a while and enjoy food, conversation, laughter and tears around the "kitchen table!"
Fran had many hobbies and talents. She loved the outdoors and liked to fish down on the river, play golf where she often played in tournaments, gardening, traveling and oil painting. She liked music and enjoyed dancing. Later in life she began writing poetry. Her most memorable talent was the "open door welcome" to her heart and home she shared with all who knew her. Fran was a lovable and wonderful mother and friend. She will be missed by many.
