DALTON 'JIMMY' CHASE

SNOW HILL -- Mr. Dalton "Jimmy" Chase, 75, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Greene County, he was born Sept. 9, 1936, the son of Sidney and Blanche Thomas Chase.

After working many years as a carpenter and farmer, Jimmy accepted a position with Firestone in Wilson retiring as a supervisor.

Jimmy was very devoted to his family and community. He helped establish Shine Volunteer Fire Department, and traveled to Indiana to purchase and drive back the department's first fire truck. He subsequently served as the chief for many years, and then on the administrative board, helping to continue to build and guide the department.

Jimmy retired from his leadership roles with the department in December 2010, choosing not to be re-elected due to his declining health.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Snow Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Terry Heath officiating, and members of Shine Volunteer Fire Department Honor Guard serving as pallbearers.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his sisters, Alease C. Lane and Mildred C. Hill, and brothers, Billy Chase and Sidney Wayne "Bud" Chase.

His surviving family includes his beloved wife of 55 years, Jean Gay Chase; sons, Ray Chase and wife, Lori, of Snow Hill and Robbie Chase of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Summer Chase Pennington and husband, Daniel, of Greenville, Colby Chase of Snow Hill and Waylon Chase of Snow Hill; a sister, Elise C. Skinner of Snow Hill; sister-in-law, Evelyn Chase of Snow Hill; brother-in-law, Wayne Hill of Snow Hill; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion and pet, Gismo Chase.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, Feb. 3, at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, and other times at the residence, 174 Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill.
